About National Careers Service

The National Careers Service provides free professional and personalised advice about getting a new job, changing careers, training, education and the labour market. It is available to anyone 13+ in England. Participants include; 18-24 year old’s not in education or training, adults without Level 3 or above, those who have been unemployed for 12+ months, single parents, adults with special education needs/disabilities and those aged 50+ who are unemployed or at risk of being unemployed. We offer action plans for career advice, support to develop confidence and motivation, personalised support for job opportunities and training.

Role Purpose

To operate the Contact Centre telephone service for the National Careers Service, West Midlands.

This role will involve a shift pattern Monday to Friday between 9am and 7pm and 2 Saturday's per month. 

Salary: £19,000

Location: Cobalt Square, Birmingham

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate the telephone in the Progression Centre for the National Careers Services on a rota basis.
  • Answer telephone calls from the Local Contact Centre, take bookings for advice sessions, provide basic information and referrals for the service.
  • Provide a warm handover to a telephone careers adviser whenever possible.
  • Undertake follow up calls with customers over the telephone, by email or any other method required by the contract.
  • Update the Prospects MI system with information about contacts and arrange follow up activities.
  • Record customer complaints and compliments to meet Prospects’ standards and procedures.
  • Produce activity reports as required.
  • Ensure adherence to the company’s equalities and diversity policy.
  • Other duties commensurate with the level and nature of the post.
