Deputy Children's Home Manager

Monkton Heathfield, Somerset (Tone House)
Full-time, Fixed-Term (Until January 2027)
£36,305 – £38,505 per annum

At Tone House, you’ll be supporting young people to feel safe, understood, and able to be themselves.

They are teenagers with their own personalities, interests, and experiences. They enjoy gaming, music, social media, sports like football and boxing, creative outlets such as art and fashion, and spending time with friends. They also value simple things — good food, time outdoors, and having space to just be.

Some days they’ll want to talk, laugh, and engage. Other days, they may need space, calm, and understanding. What matters most is having adults around them who can adapt, stay consistent, and build real trust over time.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a Deputy Children’s Home Manager who can bring strong leadership alongside genuine, relationship-led care.

Someone who is:

  • Calm, patient, and emotionally consistent
  • Approachable, genuine, and non-judgemental
  • A clear communicator, able to set boundaries without confrontation
  • Relatable, with a good sense of humour
  • Trauma-informed, understanding behaviour as communication
  • Consistent and reliable, following through on what they say

Your Role in the Home

As Deputy Manager, you will play a key leadership role while remaining closely involved in the day-to-day lives of the young people.

Supporting Young People

  • Build trusting, meaningful relationships
  • Support emotional wellbeing using trauma-informed approaches
  • Encourage independence, including cooking, planning, and decision-making
  • Create engaging, age-appropriate activities based on their interests
  • Provide clear, calm boundaries that promote safety and structure
  • Offer valuable 1:1 time, helping young people feel heard and understood

Leadership & Operational Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day running of the home
  • Lead shifts and act as a role model for staff
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members
  • Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager
  • Oversee safeguarding, risk management, and care planning
  • Maintain Ofsted compliance and high-quality standards of care
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive team culture

Why This Role is a Great Opportunity

  • A home focused on relationships, not just routines
  • A balance of structure and flexibility to meet individual needs
  • A pioneering partnership between Homes2Inspire, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, and Somerset Council
  • Access to clinical and therapeutic support
  • A commitment to trauma-informed, love-led practice
  • Excellent development potential — these roles are ideal for colleagues looking to step into senior leadership positions and broaden their operational experience

This is a chance to not only make a difference now, but to build your future leadership career.

What You’ll Need

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential childcare
  • Experience as a Deputy Manager or Senior Support Worker
  • QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Willingness to complete Level 5 in Leadership & Management
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the home

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive 3-week induction
  • Award-winning wellbeing support
  • Multi-agency working with NHS & Local Authority professionals
  • Clear development and progression pathways
  • 28 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays)

The Difference You’ll Make

This role is about more than covering a position it’s about providing stability and consistency during a period of change.

For the young people at Tone House, having a Deputy Manager who is present, calm, and committed can make all the difference.

If you can bring leadership, resilience, authenticity, and the ability to build real connections, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.
