Purpose
To design, develop, maintain and continuously improve enterprise-grade data engineering solutions within the Microsoft Fabric platform, supporting the organisation’s strategic data and business intelligence objectives.
Reporting to the Head of Data and Business Intelligence, the Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end engineering lifecycle of scalable, secure and resilient data platforms and pipelines, including ingestion, transformation, modelling, orchestration, optimisation, monitoring and defect resolution.
The role will play a key part in the development and operational management of a Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) data platform, sourcing and integrating data from multiple disparate internal and external systems, including operational, HR, finance and third-party platforms.
The post holder will be expected to design and implement robust common data models at both organisational and functional levels, ensuring data is standardised, trusted, governed and consumable across the business.
The role requires extensive practical experience working with sensitive and regulated data, implementing strong controls around security, governance, lineage, quality, completeness and auditability.
The Senior Data Engineer will operate within a structured software and data engineering delivery framework including defined intake processes, backlog management, Kanban or sprint-based delivery methodologies, controlled release processes and multi-environment deployment management across development, test and production environments.
The role will also be responsible for proactively identifying data quality, integrity and consistency issues including duplication, concatenation inconsistencies, incomplete records, schema drift and reconciliation failures, and designing appropriate technical and operational solutions to address them.
