Description

Oh, hi! Who are you? Are you the next captain of Harris House?

If you’re reading this, then I guess you’re thinking about coming to live with us… well, not live with us, but, you know, be in charge (the nice kind of in charge). The adults here say they’re looking for someone new to help look after me and the other kids. I don’t know when that will be, but I really hope it’s soon.

I’m hoping you’re kind, calm, and actually listen. Like, really listen. I hope you like football (Man United, obviously), silly jokes, and maybe even reading letters now and then. I just want someone who makes me feel safe, like I matter, and doesn’t give up on me when things get hard.

Sometimes I have big feelings. Like… really big. And I don’t always know how to say what I’m thinking or feeling. It can come out a bit messy. But that’s okay, right? That’s why we need a big, proper grown-up like you to help me through those days, and help the other staff too, so we all work together. You’ll help me stick to my routines, cheer me on when I do good stuff, and support me when I mess up a bit.

Some days I want to go out for long walks, kick a football around, or hang with my mates. Other days, I just want to curl up with snacks and watch Netflix. I love Sunday roasts (even if it’s not Sunday), and I like my ham sarnies with no crusts. I don’t always do my homework or tidy my room… but to be honest, I’ve seen some of the adults forget stuff too (don’t tell them I said that!).

What I need is someone who gets it. Someone who knows kids like me sometimes need a second (or third) chance, and someone who reminds me of the good stuff about myself when I forget. If you think you’re patient, funny, and brave enough to be our next big boss (but in a kind way), then please apply to Homes2Inspire.

Come and be part of our home. I’ll be waiting. (You can also eat my crusts)

— A girl from Harris House
