Homes2Inspire specialise in working with young people in residential care, and have comprehensive experience in providing specialist, welfare and educational based support, interventions and guidance to children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural difficulties.

About this role:

The role of an Education and Careers Coordinator involves supporting and helping the young people within our homes achieve their full potential. This role will include partnership working with local authorities, education providers and other professionals to ensure that all young people receive their statutory education entitlement and have access to training and employment. This is a peripatetic position covering numerous homes in the allocated area.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To promote the value of education, training and employment and encourage positive engagement of young people within the homes.
  • Advocate on behalf of young people and ensure access to their full education entitlement, challenging appropriately where necessary.
  • Ensure all young people newly placed, access education appropriate to their needs in a timely manner.
  • Report on young people’s progress and attainment in education placement to Senior Leadership Team.
  • Maintain evidence of the outcomes and achievements of young people and support home manager during Ofsted inspections.
  • Attend professional meetings in relation to young person’s education or training.
  • Delivering qualifications within the home including ASDAN Personal Development Programme; and marking and evaluation of completed work for certification.
  • Maintain up to date records of young person’s educational details on electronic databases.
  • Support with site education visits.
  • Deliver careers information, advice and guidance sessions with young people to support them with future decisions made regarding their education and careers choices.

Post-16 young people:

  • Assist in the identification of post 16 training opportunities and support young people in the application process.
  • Support young people that wish to change their post-16 options or when they have not received the necessary grades to study their first option.
  • Attend professional meetings in relation to young person’s education or training.
  • Deliver careers information, advice and guidance to young people, supporting them with creating a CV.
  • Support young people with applications that include study, employment, and apprenticeship opportunities.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Challenge both young people and professionals when decisions are made that are not in the best interest of the young person’s education or employment.
  • Deliver training on the legal requirements and expectations within the homes.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive Health and Safety culture and adhere to GDPR legislation, confidentiality, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Network with local businesses to create new opportunities for our young people.
  • Support and advise colleagues on education and employment issues.
  • Liaise with relevant key stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to the young people’s care and education.
  • Complete weekly, quarterly, and annual reports that give accurate and factual data regarding each young person’s education.

Person Specification

  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant area together with a minimum Level 2 Maths and English qualification.
  • Expected to work towards a Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development
  • Commitment to improving the life chances of young people in care.
  • Experience of working in an education setting.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to establish a rapport and engage young people.
  • Good IT skills including competence in use of Excel.
  • Awareness of Department of Education guidelines on Promoting the education of looked after children and The Children’s Homes Regulation – Education Quality Standard
  • Own transport and valid driving licence
