About Us

Working in our residential children’s homes At Homes2Inspire means working for a dedicated team providing nurturing and supportive environments for young people in our care. We are committed to helping build a brighter future for our young people by offering stability, guidance, and pathways to becoming well-rounded adults – and our support staff are there every step of the way!

The nature of the role varies in pace, and you will be working directly with vulnerable young people who have adverse backgrounds and require a trauma-informed nurturing environment. For some young people, the behaviours caused by previous trauma can mean that it is too risky for them to live with others, and smaller homes with higher staffing ratios are required to ensure that young people in need have a place to call home and the support system in place to work through difficult emotions and behaviours.

The Role

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing consistent care and support during the night. You will ensure the children feel safe, assist with night-time routines and manage any issues that arise during the night.

Key Responsibilities

  • Nurturing Support: Build positive relationships with children, providing emotional and practical support and create an environment where our children feel safe and loved.
  • Night time routine: Assist children with their nighttime routines including settling for bed time and morning wake ups.
  • Safety and Supervision: Maintain a safe, secure, and clean environment throughout the night, conducting regular checks to ensure the wellbeing of the children.
  • Professional Parenting: Promote, and support the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of our children.
  • Support and Reassurance: Provide emotional and practical support to children who may wake up during the night, addressing any concerns or anxieties.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain records detailing the journey of our children, in a way that is thoughtful and meaningful.
  • Making Memories: Provide our children with the opportunities and experiences to make happy memories.

Qualifications and Skills

Although previous experience of working with young children would be ideal, it is not essential; you will be provided with the training you need to best support our children and young people.

We are looking for individuals with strong interpersonal skills, the ability to engage with children and work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals. You will have the confidence to handle challenging situations with patience and a calm demeanour and believe that every day is a new day. You must be willing to work shifts including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Please note:

  • All successful candidates will be subject to a vetting process in line with safer recruitment requirements. This includes right to work checks, Enhanced DBS Check for Children and Adults workforce (H2I will cover the cost of this check) and satisfactory reference checks in line with safer recruitment requirements.
  • Shaw Trust reserves the right to close this vacancy early if sufficient applications are received.
  • Ofsted regulations outline that support workers working with children and young people must be 3 years older than the oldest young person within the home e.g., if a young person in the home was turning 18, you would need to be 21 at a minimum.
  • We are not able to support visa sponsorship applications.
