Functional Skills Tutor

About Shaw Trust

At Shaw Trust we believe everyone has the right to live a decent and dignified life and an opportunity for rewarding work. We are a social purpose organisation challenging inequality and breaking down barriers to enable social mobility.

Having grown from humble beginnings in 1982 in the village of Shaw in Wiltshire, finding jobs for disabled people, today we are a complex and diverse charity committed to employment as the core pathway to a better life.  For us being part of the solution is about creating the conditions for this to happen, advocating and delivering services that make a real difference. Working in partnership not competition, we are part of an eco-system of purpose-led organisations, striving for a fairer, more equal society centred on opportunity for all.

Role Purpose

Gloucestershire Youth Support Team works with a variety of young people who, for multiple reasons have found it hard to engage in statutory and further education. This includes children in care and care leavers, young people working with the Youth Offending Service, home educated young people and school refusers. Some have very low self-esteem and confidence in their ability to learn; struggle to see a positive future for themselves and believe they cannot achieve in education.

Our Youth Support Team tutoring provision has often been the first education a young person has engaged with for a long time, and can be the springboard to success for many.  We are therefore looking for a dynamic, engaging and creative tutor who can help these young people 1-1 and in small groups to overcome their barriers to learning by focusing on functional skills development.
