Careers Adviser

 About Shaw Trust

At Shaw Trust we believe everyone has the right to live a decent and dignified life and an opportunity for rewarding work. We are a social purpose organisation challenging inequality and breaking down barriers to enable social mobility.

Having grown from humble beginnings in 1982 in the village of Shaw in Wiltshire, finding jobs for disabled people, today we are a complex and diverse charity committed to employment as the core pathway to a better life.  For us being part of the solution is about creating the conditions for this to happen, advocating and delivering services that make a real difference. Working in partnership not competition, we are part of an eco-system of purpose-led organisations, striving for a fairer, more equal society centred on opportunity for all.

About Children and Families Services

Children and Families Services is one of Shaw Trust’s key operational areas. Each year we work with thousands of children and young people helping to build the skills they need for the future.

We work with vulnerable young people – we work with local authorities to provide targeted support for young people in need with a particular focus on those not in education, training or employment. In Gloucestershire our contract includes a substance misuse service, young people’s housing advice service, youth crime prevention, youth offending service and youth work.

We work with some of the country’s most vulnerable children and young people. They are often at risk of poor educational attainment, social exclusion, exploitation and substance misuse issues. By working with them through their early years through to teenagers we can improve their life chances and do our best to support their transition into adulthood.

Role Purpose

We seek to appoint a Careers Adviser to deliver CEIAG within a large secondary school in Colchester (on-site), for two days per week, initially for the Autumn Term (twenty six days in total) with the potential to be extended through the Spring and Summer Term (a further twenty-six days per term).

Qualified to a Level 6 Diploma in Careers Information or equivalent, this is an exciting opportunity for the right person with the skills, knowledge, and experience to help students make positive decisions about their futures and enable them to be aspirational. The emphasis on duties may vary dependant on the service level agreement agreed with the school but will relate to the provision of one-to-one careers IAG and related activities.
